Several dietary factors affect the level of lead absorption in people and experimental animals. For example, approximately three times as much lead is absorbed following a 16-hour fast than when lead is administered fol- lowing normal periods of food or feed consumption. In animal studies, increasing the corn oil content in the diet from 5 to 40% resulted in a 7- to 14-fold increase in lead content in many tissues.
